No one expects to get free goods from a store or free meals from a restaurant, but for whatever reason, they feel entitled to read online content without paying for it.

Most sites, including Medium and The Washington Post offer readers a limited number of free articles. If you find yourself running out of those free articles every month it’s a clear sign that you should support the platform. If you don’t do it, who will?

If we want to keep journalism and great writing alive, we need to pay for it.
