I haven’t seen this show before, I’ll have to check it out. One fact check, though. Michelle McNamara’s work did not lead to the arrest of the alleged Golden State Killer. Her investigative work was important and her book was very well-written, thus many people originally believed it led to the suspect’s capture but in fact it did not.

DeAngelo was captured after law enforcement poured through DNA sites looking for a match to DNA from one of the original crime scenes. They were able to identify a family member and from there developed DeAngelo as a suspect and collected his DNA from a parking lot. It proved to be a match for the Golden State Killer. This was completely unrelated to McNamara’s book.

This isn’t to diminish McNamara’s hard work in any way. Her book was a major achievement (she even gave him his name), but her research did not lead to the suspect’s arrest.
